Asia Source: Tech camp for the voluntary sector

I’ve just received an announcement from the The Tactical Technology Collective (Tactical Tech), a non-profit organisation aimed at strengthening the social technology movements and networks in developing and transition countries, as well as promote civil society’s effective, conscious and creative use of new technologies.
For the beginning of next year ( January 28th to February 4th 2005) they are organising a new camp in Bangalore, India, called Asia Source: Tech camp for the voluntary sector. Through sessions participants deal from planning and helping an NGO to migrate to FOSS, to sharing tips and techniques on using tools for content development, advocacy and campaigning. In parallel to this they will look beneath user-level scenarios, and break-down tricky issues such as localisation techniques and how to develop total cost of ownership models.
These source camps are week long workshops, designed to create hands-on opportunities for practical learning and exchange and to make connections with regional peers. In 2003 they organised in Croatia Summersource, dealing with the implementation of Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS) solutions for civil society organisations. In 2004 they organised Africa Source, and focused on the practical challenges of realising F/OSS in the African context, and the aim was to build cooperation between Africa’s most active F/OSS individuals and projects in the longer term.
Applications will be announced and invited between October and November 2004. Participants will be selected by the advisory board based on their interest and experiences. There will be a small registration fee for the event. A limited number of travel and registration fee scholarships will be available and may be applied for on application. If you would like to receive an application form or have any questions please write to asiasource@tacticaltech.org.
