Philip Worthington plays with time: re:Mapping, a project aimed at re-examining the way we represent time and space in traditional geographic mapping.
“The map is unique in that it dynamically represents space as time over distance in place of the usual geographic mapping. As roads become faster and slower as a result of congestion their representation on the map shrinks and expands to reflect this. “
Last week I went to Rotterdam to see the Graduation Show 2005 (Master of Arts, Media Design) at the Piet Zwart Institute. One of the graduates, Roxana Torre showed a map based on the following variables:
“Personal World Map, a representation of the world based on the user’s time and money availability. The world map representation therefore shows the physical world and the actual possibilities for its exploration.”
