Now that Google released its Mac version I’ll be looking a bit deeper at the possibilities that the new plugin of SketchUp offers. This Google Earth plugin makes it possible to use Google Earth to view your own 3D models in their real-world context.

PacManhattanTo my opinion this easy way of using the “real-world” context as a tapestry opens a broad spectrum of use. An impact that I can imagine is the one of the gaming world. As an example, locative games can be bridged to online players, and at the same time Google’s “real virtual world” can easily be augmented.

sketchupOn a practical level , and as a low cost solution it’s an easy way for architecture and urban planning students to place their creation in context. As Ursula Lavrenčič once mentioned that if all the 3d models of declined architectural proposals would be collected, a total different world would be compiled. Now there’s a time and a way to reveal such a display.
